The art of the intentional linger
Summer mission is less about organized events and more about the spiritual discipline of lingering long enough to see where the Holy Spirit is already moving.
We often view summer as a time to switch off from the work of mission. We treat our neighborhood as a place to hide away rather than a place to plant seeds. Our schedules remain rushed even when our days grow longer. We pass neighbors on the sidewalk without a second thought. This creates a missed opportunity for the kingdom to break through.
It's easy to think mission requires a complex plan or a formal invitation. The truth is that Jesus is already at work in our streets. We just aren’t looking up to see where he is leading. Creating new rhythms that value presence over productivity will help us go from looking at our feet to looking our neighbors in the eye. Our neighborhood and our workplace are the primary fields where the Spirit wants to engage.
"He told them, The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field" (Luke 10:2).

Next Steps
1. Identify three people who do not know Jesus and pray for them by name every single day.
2. Go for a 15-minute prayer walk in your neighborhood at a time when people are likely to be outside.
3. Practice the art of lingering by choosing not to rush your next interaction with a neighbor.
Your prayers act like steady rain on a hard heart.
Be the person who has time for people.
