How to steward the American can-do spirit

The Big Idea

Steward the unique can-do spirit and unprecedented resources of our nation by shifting our focus outward to serve as a global catalyst for the kingdom of God.

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." (Matthew 5:14)

As we mark 250 years of our adopted nation, we have a unique opportunity to pause and evaluate the state of the nation’s spiritual leadership.

The American church possesses a remarkable can-do spirit and an unparalleled capacity for innovation. We throw immense energy and resources behind new ideas, which shape ministry patterns across the globe.

Yet a significant tension threatens this Kingdom assignment. When we pull inward, our communities quickly become fearful, negative, and insular. The wealthiest church in history can easily slip into a posture of protectionism rather than radical generosity.

True health requires us to look beyond our own borders and preferences. God loves to dream with us, and He provides resources so we can actively bless others. We must recover our identity as a city on a hill, using our innovation to raise up the vulnerable and spark global renewal.

Key highlights:

  • The spiritual mechanics behind the American can-do spirit

  • Why looking inward breeds fear and negativity in local ministries

  • How the city on a hill blueprint prevents cultural arrogance

  • The historic responsibility of the wealthiest church in world history

  • Practical ways to export kingdom innovation to the nations

Next Steps

  1. Take some time to thank God for the nation where you live. What can you be thankful for and speak blessing?

  2. What about your nation troubles you? Turn this into intercession and prophetic words of life.

  3. Now ask the Lord to show you His heart for your nation, perhaps in a specific aspect/ location where you are heavily engaged (e.g., think about to whom you are especially called to serve). What brings Him joy, and what breaks His heart?

Let us cast off fear and step boldly into the expansive, generous lifestyle that God has prepared for us.

With love,
