Four steps to move past the awkwardness and deepen your Spirit-led life
Ever felt like your prayers were hitting a ceiling, or your vocabulary simply wasn't big enough for the weight of what you were feeling?
We believe that such a space is where the gift of tongues can be such a great asset.
In this video, we seek to demystify the gift of tongues, moving it from a strange-sounding lightning bolt to a grounded, practical prayer language.
From our experience, we’ve found that this gift isn't passive. Instead, it’s a cooperative journey involving four simple movements:
1. Asking for the gift
2. Cooperating with the Spirit
3. Leaning into a posture of worship
4. Persevering through the initial clunkiness
Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or just beginning to explore this gift, this conversation will give you practical encouragement to move forward in a non-hyped manner.
Next Steps
As you look at the 4 steps we outline, which ones are you doing well, and where do you need to improve?
If you don’t currently speak in tongues, pause and consider what your prayer around this topic might be.
Take some time to pray that prayer!
Paul makes clear that speaking in tongues is not one of the greater gifts (1 Corinthians 12:30-31), so we need to keep it in perspective. Simultaneously, though, it is a gift that he wanted his original readers of 1 Corinthians to have and use (1 Corinthians 14:5a).
So keep it in perspective and pursue it as you feel the Holy Spirit leading you.
With love,
Alex + Hannah
