Resources Worth Investigating
WELCOME to Issue #283 of The Seedhead from Alex and Hannah at Dandelion Resourcing
- a weekly confidence booster to help you step into naturally supernatural discipleship and mission!
Things that we’re finding interesting or useful - and you might too!
BOOK: Dante - Inferno (The Divine Comedy)
Viewed as one of the great works of world literature, Inferno follows a tour of the 9 circles of hell, each one containing people who’ve made worse and worse choices in their lives.
While it reflects medieval Catholic theology and worldview, it is still a jarring challenge to the Christian.
The book (written as a poem, although not always translated as such), shows the consequences of our choices in the afterlife. Many of the punishments for specific sins are so clear and poetic it causes you to stop and consider your own life choices.
The lesson that comes through is that our actions carry consequences beyond this life, and there is judgment for believers on how we use the life the Father has given us.
Encouragingly, satan is depicted bound and punished in the 9th and worst circle of hell.
Amusingly, that 9th circle of hell is not marked by fire and heat, but by ice and cold. After spending 5 winters in NE Ohio, I agree!!
YOUTUBE: Demons and the Divine Council - Michael Heiser
In this documentary, the late Michael Heiser discusses the ancient Near Eastern context of the Bible and how it reveals an overtly supernatural worldview. Specifically, he looks at the nature of the demonic, how it is shown in the Bible, and what we can understand about how their power operates.
For instance, he involves distinct rebellions by supernatural beings and how God retains His sovereignty even as he gives them room to operate. He also helpfully explains the territorial nature of spiritual powers, and how that can impact us today.
This setup of supernatural beings, the divine council, and spiritual rebellion then paves the way for a fresh angle on Jesus’ ministry and the meaning of His death. One of His goals was to reverse the impact of those ancient rebellions, and thus to empower us, His followers, to reclaim formerly ceded ground for the Kingdom.
A great use of 45 minutes of TV time!
MUSIC: William Augusto
Solid Christian ambient music is a great resource, whether you’re praying, studying, or working. William Augusto has a range of lengths of music available, stretching from normal-length tracks all the way to over three hours!
This is from his bio on Spotify:
William is a Brazilian music producer who… began creating what he calls ‘instrumental soaking music’ in 2018 as an accompaniment to times of prayer and waiting on God. William’s heart is to magnify the Holy Spirit and attract His presence through his music so people can encounter the Father.
