How to partner with the Holy Spirit without making it weird

True spiritual leadership requires trading our fear of disappointment for persistent expectancy, equipping everyday disciples to step out in simple, loving obedience.

"But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort." (1 Corinthians 14:3)

Many of us carry an unspoken theology of disappointment that quietly limits our expectations of the Holy Spirit. We remember the times we prayed for healing and nothing changed, or we watched extreme, bizarre models that left us feeling completely alienated. Over time, we choose the safe route of quiet cessationism just to protect our hearts from further pain.

This cautious approach drains the faith right out of our communities. We create artificial barriers, requiring special permission or advanced theological training before anyone dares to minister to a neighbor. Meanwhile, our people are starving for an authentic experience of God, and some are even looking in dangerous, dark places for supernatural power.

We need to realize that the goal of every supernatural encounter is simply to reveal the love of the Father. Jesus gives us clear standing orders to step out, and his guidelines are wonderfully basic. When we replace our hesitation with a culture of persistent expectancy, so everyday disciples finally get to play.

In this interview with our friend Jeff Vanderstelt, we explore how to step into naturally supernatural living.

For those who don’t know Jeff, he leads Saturate, a ministry focused on equipping people to be disciples of Jesus in the everyday stuff of life. They have SO many great resources - you’ll so enjoy checking them out!  saturatetheworld.com

Next Steps

  1. Implement the thirty-second pause before meetings or difficult conversations to ask the Holy Spirit for perspective.

  2. Establish an absolute default: offer a short, bold prayer whenever you encounter a sick person, focusing entirely on revealing the love of the Father.

  3. Regularly share raw, simple testimonies of everyday spiritual encounters in your community gatherings to lift team expectation.

Let us stop negotiating with our fears and start moving in the authority we have already received. The kingdom is ready to break out in the cracks of your ordinary routine.

With love,
