Why Your Vacation is Failing You

WELCOME to Issue #290 of The Seedhead from Alex and Hannah at Dandelion Resourcing
- a weekly confidence booster to help you step into naturally supernatural discipleship and mission!

Leaders need more time to decompress than they realize

Most of us treat our time off like the scraps left over after we have given everything to our work.

We push through the ministry marathon while only taking a few days to catch our breath. This cycle of exhaustion is a horrible model that leads to burnout.

We have accidentally adopted a pace that values output over spiritual health.

The truth is that you cannot fully recharge in a short window. We need a better rhythm that treats vacations as a vital spiritual practice. If we do not change how we rest, we will not have the strength to finish the race well.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28)

In this week’s video, you will discover the importance of extended rest. You’ll even learn how to negotiate for more time off, even if your contract seems fixed.

Video Summary:

  • Vacation is a spiritual practice for those on the ministry marathon

  • The European model of extended time off provides a healthier framework

  • Planning vacations early ensures rest actually happens

  • It takes at least a full week to decompress before you can hear God clearly

Next Steps

  1. Sit with your spouse or a trusted friend and map out the next twelve months of rest.

  2. Identify a 2-week+ block of time when you can step away from all ministry responsibilities.

  3. Ask the Lord to help you renegotiate your work hours or pay to prioritize your spiritual health.

Jesus frequently withdrew to lonely places to pray and rest. In case you haven’t realized, you are not stronger than Him!

With love,
