Simple Steps for a Spirit Led Church
WELCOME to Issue #285 of The Seedhead from Alex and Hannah at Dandelion Resourcing
- a weekly confidence booster to help you step into naturally supernatural discipleship and mission!
God moves when we learn to wait and listen
We all want a church where the Spirit moves, but the reality often feels like a tug-of-war between two extremes.
On one hand, we have the Agenda Trap, where our spreadsheets and schedules leave no room for the disruptive beauty of God. On the other hand, we fear a Chaos Culture that lacks the biblical grounding to stay healthy.
How do we lead a community that expects the supernatural without becoming unmoored from the Bible?
In this video, I walk through the back alleys of Long Beach to answer a question from a church planter named Anthony.
We explore how to move past programming the Spirit and instead build a culture where everyone, from the leadership team to the newest visitor, can learn to hear and respond to the voice of Jesus.
Here are some of the ideas highlighted in the video:
- Move from supernatural events to kingdom culture.
- Prioritize the encounter over the agenda.
- Practice persistent expectancy without entitlement.
- The 30-second rule: Learning to wait and listen.
- Adopting the "Everyone gets to play" mindset.
- Using Scripture as the yardstick for experience.
Next Steps
Audit your white space - Look at your next staff meeting or service flow. Identify one five-minute block where you can intentionally remove the "plan" to leave room for listening.
Model the pause - The next time someone shares a struggle, resist the urge to give advice first and pray second. Instead, start by asking, "Can we wait on the Lord for 30 seconds together and see what he says?"
Scripture alignment - Read through 1 Corinthians 14 this week. Ask yourself how ‘everyone gets to play’ currently looks (or doesn't look) in your specific context.
As we wrap up, our question to you is this:
If the Holy Spirit decided to completely change the direction of your next gathering (wherever you have some leadership responsibility), would your current schedule allow him the room to do so?
Ouch!!
But worth chewing through!
With love,

P.S. We’re sharing these thoughts from the alleys of Long Beach because Kingdom life happens not only in church buildings, but also in the messy, dirty, boxed-in spaces where we actually live. Watch out for more of these! And if you have a question you’d like one of us to answer, please send it in.
