All of life is designed to be lived in the power of the Spirit
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
From our perspective as humans, the Holy Spirit is God’s empowering presence. He loves to come alongside to help, guide, strengthen, and resource us to look more like Jesus and to extend His kingly rule wherever we go.
Weirdly, most Christians don’t expect, or even ask, the Spirit to empower them in the everyday moments of life. This functional atheism means that we often look and act little different to our lost friends and colleagues, which is such a shame, as the Spirit wants to do so much more!
Did you know that the Holy Spirit is not offended if you ask Him to resource you with heaven’s authority and power?
Of course, we worship a God whose plans and purposes are so far above our understanding, which means that not every prayer is answered as we would like it to be.
However, most of us are leaving so much Spirit resourcing on the table, forgetting that God is delighted to help us in the little moments - a planning meeting at work, a difficult school assignment, figuring out how to stretch the family budget, how to build relational connections with your lost neighbors - as well as those big bold times when something more dramatic is required.
In this video, we teach a little more to set up this worldview that Jesus Empowers us through the Holy Spirit.
Next Steps
Reflect on times when you’ve done something in your own strength, and compare it to when you did something similar and actually asked for the Spirit’s empowerment. (If you can’t think of an example, run a few experiments this week - pick little things, and compare the difference.)
