When God crashes your romantic B&B getaway
Big Idea:
Be ready. God can move at any point, even when you're on vacation.
A couple of weeks ago, we’d just checked into a cute Victorian B&B for a three-night couple's getaway.
Jess, the lovely manager, showed us around the gorgeous property, and along the way, mentioned that she couldn't help carry bags because she had a hernia. As we listened, the Holy Spirit was nudging us to lean in and look for an appropriate moment to offer to pray for healing.
When we got to the room, I asked her, "We’re Christians, and sometimes we see Jesus heal people when they have something wrong. Would you like us to pray for Jesus to heal your hernia?" Jess happily replied, "Yes, please!" Before we knew it, she grabbed my hand and slapped it over the hernia, which was right next to her belly button! The protruding lump was easy to identify, as it was like the top part of a finger poking out of her stomach.
So we prayed a short, bold, command prayer, something like, "Thank You, Jesus, for your presence, and that You love to heal. Hernia be gone, in Jesus’ name.”
As I stood there with my hand over the protruding lump, I literally felt the hernia melt back into her body. I was shocked! Trying to keep calm and sound casual, I asked, "Did you feel anything?" Jess replied, "It feels like it's completely gone!"
Over the next couple of days, Jess gave us several updates, and she was 100% healed. More than that, her faith and commitment to Jesus had been rekindled and boosted.
Before we left, we had a sweet time of prayer with Jess and her Mom, and then she kindly let us capture her experience of this healing and how it had impacted her.
Next Steps
On a scale of 1-5 (where Jesus scores 10!), how interruptible are you to God’s agenda? What would raise your score by 1 this week?
In those moments, how willing are you to risk looking foolish?
As you hear Jess' testimony, what does it stir in you?
Jesus loves to heal! Let’s be willing to take the risk and make that offer as we encounter people who need God’s healing touch.
With love,
Alex + Hannah
