How to equip every believer to be a disciple maker

I recently listened to a brilliant podcast by Jon Tyson on discipleship - and it’s stuck with me all week.

He asks a compelling question: How do we equip every believer to be a disciple maker?

The answer might be simpler than we think. You don’t need to have all the answers or a theology degree. As Jon puts it, discipleship is “walking with people on an intentional relational journey.” If you know just a bit more than the person you're leading, you’re qualified.

Jon outlines four goals in discipleship:

  • Restore what’s been lost

  • Repair what’s broken

  • Prepare someone for their future

  • Train them to fight spiritually

Discipleship isn’t about being an expert, it’s about being available. You don’t have to be perfect - just present.

Discipling others isn’t a leadership strategy, but rather a call to every believer.

Next Steps

  1. Who are you intentionally pouring into right now?

  2. Who has God placed near you, not just for friendship, but for formation?

Discipling those who are younger in faith and/or younger in years is such a privilege. Imagine: God has left the success of His great mission in the hands of each generation! Crazy!!

Let’s choose to be the most faithful generation yet. Let’s give the generations coming after us the most incredible boost, so that they can stand on our shoulders and go even further for Jesus and His glory.

With love,

Alex + Hannah
