What Do You Call It When Pain Just… Leaves?

Be inspired by stories of Jesus’ healing power this month!

Earlier this month something powerful happened. We had the privilege of ministering at a church in Missouri, and what we witnessed was a beautiful outpouring of God's healing power.

Our weekend began with workshops on praying for others in the power of the Spirit and raising naturally supernatural kids. But the main event was Sunday's annual healing service, where we were honored to preach.

At the end of the sermon, we invited the congregation to pray for those around them who needed healing. For many, this was their first time stepping out in this way and they jumped in with boldness!

Later we joined the church's prayer team to minister to individuals who came forward, and we saw God show up in amazing ways.

Here are a few of the testimonies:

Firefighter’s Back Injury Disappeared

A firefighter came to us with a back injury he'd suffered on the job. For months, he'd been in constant pain, rating it a 7 out of 10. During the congregational prayer time, his wife and teenage children prayed for him, and the pain dropped from a 7 to a 4.

He then came for further prayer. Following a prophetic prompt, he was encouraged to forgive those involved in the incident, whether or not it was intentional. He agreed that this was a meaningful step, and he chose to forgive. We then prayed for his back again, and he experienced a complete and instant healing, the pain was gone entirely!

"Macho Man" Healed

We met a man in his early 60s who described himself as “a guy who just goes for it,” resulting in years of injuries and ongoing pain, especially after a recent hip replacement.

We led him in a simple prayer asking God’s forgiveness for not stewarding his body well and releasing the identity of being the “all-action man.” As we prayed for healing, every bit of pain left. He bent and stretched easily, things he hadn’t been able to do for years. The "macho man" became a man moved to tears.

Autistic Teen Heals His Mom

One mom had injured her shoulder and neck, leaving her hunched and in pain. Her autistic middle-school son previously refused to pray about anything, and wouldn’t engage spiritually. But during the service, he placed his hand on her shoulder and commanded healing, and she was completely healed!

While she was overjoyed at the physical healing, what moved her most was that her son prayed and God used him. It was physical, emotional, spiritual, relational, and even familial healing all in one moment.

Teen Girl’s Sports Injury Gone

A teenage girl with a painful back injury from playing sports also experienced a full recovery, after her family prayed for her (a new thing for them). As she tested it out, she kept looking at her dad and exclaiming, "This is amazing! It's incredible!"

Dark Thoughts Lifted

A man had recently been tormented by terrible, dark thoughts about dying. While receiving prayer he felt the Holy Spirit enter his mind and remove them. “I literally felt them being lifted off, and I could feel the warmth of the Holy Spirit enveloping me. It's a feeling I wish I could keep close to me forever!”

Jesus Gets the Glory!

We are so incredibly excited about what God has done, and is still doing, in so many lives. All honor and praise to Him!

We also want to encourage you: God is on the move, and He is our healer. YOU can do this wherever you are this week!

Next Steps

As you hear about these stories, ask the Lord how he might be inspiring you. It might be:

  1. Cry out for more – Ask Jesus to release more healing in your church and your place of mission. (This church had been wrestling in prayer for weeks before this service.)

  2. Step out boldly – Pray for the sick when you see them, whether in church or out in your community.

  3. Encourage teens and kids to be praying – At least two of the testimonies from Sunday were as a result of teens praying. Who are the children in your life who you can encourage to pray?

It’s always such a beautiful moment to witness a person realize that they’ve been supernaturally healed. There are so many emotions - joy, amazement, thanksgiving, confusion, laughter, tears. And at the center of the scrum is Jesus, bringing blessing and goodness into lives, and calling people back to our Father.

That’s why healing the sick is something that’s central to Jesus-centered discipleship and mission.

With love,
